Uniqueness Of The Bible

The Bible is an unique book. There are many books you can find running into hundreds of pages explaining the uniqueness of the Bible. This is brief a brief article giving some key factors.

Valuable Variety and Unity:

Bible is like an ocean – people can sail in large ships, fishermen can fish with small boats, researchers can investigate its richness and diversity of life, irrespective of age groups- from small kids to very old people, all can enjoy on the shore with variety of beach activities. In various ways we receive and enjoy the benefits of Bible. Indeed, the list is endless.

About 40 authors from a broad spectrum of people were inspired by God to write Bible Books. Some were fishermen, some kings and some scholars.

It is a divine library of 66 books. Some books were written as legal documents, some as poetry, some as history, some as letters.

Old Testament covering 39 books were written before Jesus Christ encompassing a period of about 1500 years, well preserved by the Jewish community. They foretell Christ. New Testament covering 27 books were written over about 60 years. They speak about the life of Christ on earth and foretell his second coming.

But all these 66 books have a unique, coherent and developing theme. It is Salvation mankind from the chains of sin through Grace of God by the life, sacrifice, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who is going to come again.

Inspiration:

Bible came to us by Inspiration and activity of the Spirit of God whereby He directed the human authors of Scriptures. And their writing became a normal expression in human language of God’s word to humanity. Inspiration implies that God was directly involved in the writing of the Bible. Bible verses II Timothy. 3:16-17 and II Peter 1:19-21 confirm this claim.

Historical Reliability & Accuracy:

Old Testament books were written before Jesus Christ in a period were well preserved by the Jewish community with utmost care for centuries with highly disciplined copying from sources. They were attested by Jesus Christ and His direct disciples, later called to be the Apostles. Most of the New Testament manuscripts were copied 50 to 300 years after the original. This is significantly less time than other ancient manuscripts, which are compiled at least 700 to 1000 years after the original. Though the Biblical manuscripts available are numerous and widely distributed, textual variance (difference) between the copies is insignificant and no Christian theological teaching is affected by this insignificant textual variation.

Since Bible is Word of God written by men, those who hear and read Bible carefully are able see the Vision of God and hear Voice of God. This Vision and Voice of God keeps transforming lives of individuals irrespective of age and thereby transforms families, people groups and masses generation after generation.
